Carsten Neumann moved to the United States in August 2007 as a research scientist/software developer. Carsten spends most of his day working with Open SG library – a skill he learned while working with Dr. Dirk Reiners at the Fraunhofer Institute for Computer Graphics in Darmstadt, Germany.
As his name suggests, Carsten is German — born in the tiny town of Heusenstamm, some 15 miles outside the city limits of Frankfurt. Apart from working on Open SG and enjoying life as a student in general, Carsten obtained a Master of Science in mathematics from the Technical University of Darmstadt. Despite focusing his studies on a rather untypical subject, Carsten has always been fascinated by computers and how to make them do interesting things (ever since the day his dad showed him how to write a simple program in BASIC). A considerable part of his free time is spent playing and practicing field hockey. Since moving to the U.S., he is experimenting with finding a new sport to love.
Inspired and encouraged by the Cajuns’ prevalent love for music, Carsten is learning to play the guitar. However, progress has been rather slow (and coming from a family with absolutely no musical talent in recent generations is proving to be less than helpful.) However, he remains determined and confident that success is possible!
Carsten recommends opensg.vrsource.org.
