Our Data Center contains the vast majority of LITE’s computing horsepower, as well as the network and video switching hardware that keep our venues lit up and connected to the world. Data Center also contains well over 500 processing cores worth of computing power, a mixed one gigabit and 10 gigabit internal network, 20 gigabit external LONI access and a separate 20 gigabit fiber network available for commercial traffic. It is climate-controlled, supports water-cooled racks and has UPS and generator power backup. It will run for two days without city power using on-hand fuel and longer with regularly scheduled diesel deliveries.
Highlights include:
-
SGI® Altix® 4700, “Beast” – 160 CPU cores and 4.1 terabytes of main memory in a shared memory architecture.
- SGI® Altix® 350 cluster – 11 machines each with 32 CPUs and 32 gigabits of RAM. Infiniband interconnects keep the data moving fast.
- SGI® Prism shared memory visualization machines – Two of them have 16 CPUs and six individual video cards, the third is smaller with four CPUs and two video cards.
- HP® SVA cluster – Six machines with two CPUs, two gigabits of RAM, and one video card apiece. High-speed Infiniband interconnects allow this cluster to appear to generate one contiguous image.
- Extron® 24-port video switcher – Sends images from any of our visualization servers to any screen in the facility.
- Cisco 6509 network switch – Capable of managing a large and complex network with numerous one gigabit and 10 gigabit ports and our 10 gigabit external LONI connection.
